washout days

It’s okay to have a “washout day”. Maybe today you are choosing, and that’s a huge difference, to just to not be productive. You might be well acquainted with todo lists not completed and plans left abandoned, but today you have decided to abstain from things big and small. That is okay. Don’t feel bad about it.

Maybe you don’t feel like getting out of bed today. That’s fine if it’s today. The concern is if washout day becomes washout dayS which become washout weeks which become washout months, et cetera. That is not okay. That is concerning and rightfully so, but today is just today.

MS is sneaky sometimes and may tell you that it’s okay to give up, that staying in bed is okay because your body needs rest. Your body does need rest, especially when dealing with all ms throws at it, but that is because your body is doing something, often many things. That’s not giving up or surrendering, that’s just negotiating symptoms and integrating dishes, laundry, pruning shrubs, and normal life. Life with MS isn’t normal. It often isn’t easy. Take a day off, but pick your spots.

You may [begrudgingly] become accustomed to the fact that things that never used to cause fatigue now do. If you have been reading these posts, you have a good probability of knowing what comes next. ACCEPT that such things exist. You will probably get tired. Fighting this fatigue will only cause frustration and further fatigue. You may not have nearly the control you wish, but it is something you can control. ACCEPT it and ADAPT. Adapting is certainly not as frustrating or exhausting as fighting.

Once you have ACCEPTED and ADAPTED, you can ADVANCE. In this case, advancement allows you to continue completing tasks, maybe not in the same way you once did, but in new ways without the fatigue that restricts and hampers you.
